2 Things everyone gets wrong about Plus Size Lingerie

2 Things everyone gets wrong about Plus Size Lingerie

Hello, Lovelies!

Hope we are all staying warm and cozy while the weather turns a bit colder. Earlier this year quite a few people took to social media to call out lingerie brands for their lack of inclusivity. While this is certainly not a new movement, much of it was highlighted by the birth of newer labels that boasted a diverse runway and collection size. Leading many people to draw and spot the stark differences in what has long become the status quo.

However, even with that, no one was safe from the critic as some of those newer brands equally got called out on the bias in other areas, such as styling choice for plus size women. Here at Lavinia we cherish all our customers and pride ourselves on being able to serve a diverse range of bodies and sizes. Thinking on this I decided to highlight 2 things that everyone seems to get wrong when discussing and marketing plus size lingerie.

  1. Plus size market is a fad. Many designers and retailers have impressed that the plus-sized market is simply a fad that will fade away in due time. However, Research into the lingerie world has shown a nearly billion-dollar market untapped, due to the alienation of plus-size bodies in mainstream media and lingerie marketing. I don’t know about you but that doesn’t seem like a fad to me. This is no surprise; the average American woman is a size 14 US while the average Canadian woman is the size16 US. Right now, both sizes are considered plus size by most mainstream retailers which mean little to nothing is being done to market lingerie to the average woman. 1. Plus size is efficiency over sexy. While the ideal lingerie item prioritizes both, as is commonly seen with mainstream sizes, plus size lingerie is often neglected in the sexy department. designers who cater to this market often believe that plus-size designs should be practical, and while that is nice for everyday wear, plus-sized women deserve more than the constant onslaught of t-shirt bras.
